Destroying an Evil Book

Beneath the church in Hawklor I discover a book which is also a goblin. Its creepy and wrong and so I destroy it. However it turns out be just about the toughest battle in the game, but I get big rewards at the end.  But why is there and evil book beneath a church, does Tibin (the pastor above) know, he doesn't want me to go down there so probably.
