Un equipo de científicos italianos analizó muestras de leche materna en busca de microplásticos. Todas las muestras fueron tomadas exactamente una semana después del parto, de 34 madres sanas. Detectaron microplásticos en el 75% de las muestras de leche materna. Los expertos recogieron 1 gramo de leche una semana después de que las madres dieran a luz. Para evitar la contaminación, la leche se recolectó utilizando recipientes que no fueran de plástico y se extrajo a mano, en lugar de utilizar un extractor de leche.
