We land in a beautiful portrait of a woman pouring out a fragrant act of devotion and worship at the feet of Jesus. Mark doesn't tell us her name. John, however, tells us she's Mary of Bethany, the sister of Lazarus. Mark wants us to focus on her beautiful light filled worship. Mark strategically sandwhiches her between a dark plot of the chief priests and the treachery of Judas.  Mark is painting a dark picture of the human heart. The human heart seeks to use God. We treat God as a means to an end. What can I get from God? Twila and I discuss the indignant reactions of the guests. When it comes to Jesus, we are quick to say moderation. Mary's lavish devotion made everyone uncomfortable. Like us, this might hit a little close to home for you. Have a heart to heart talk with Jesus.
