Devotional 78: Sweet Failure

from Free Range Preacher on Prayer · host Fred

We may look at Jacob and think he failed the better part of his life in trusting God and experiencing the comfort of such active faith (I know that is the way I lean), and we mad admire Joseph and His faith which made him faithful to his calling, What is excellent news to our ears right now is, Jacob’s faith did not thwart the plan of God, and Jacob’s faithfulness did not earn the good intent of God. It was God in His faithfulness that brought about the salvation of many. Oh Lord, hast the day when I resemble Jacob less: Genesis 42:36 And their father Jacob said to them, “You have bereaved me of my children: Joseph is no more, and Simeon is no more, and you would take Benjamin; all these things are against me.” And more of this: Genesis 50:20 “And as for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive.” Help all Your children, either way, say together: Romans 11:32-36 32 For God has shut up all in disobedience that He might show mercy to all. 33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! 34 For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, OR WHO BECAME HIS COUNSELOR? 35 Or WHO HAS FIRST GIVEN TO HIM THAT IT MIGHT BE PAID BACK TO HIM AGAIN? 36 For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen. Today’s Passages: Jacob’s promises: Genesis 25:23 the older will serve the younger Genesis 28:13-19 I will do these things for you… Jacob’s response: Genesis 27 deceives his dad to get the promise his way. Genesis 28:20-22 Jacob’s final testimony: Genesis 45:28 Then Israel said, “It is enough; my son Joseph is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.” Benediction: Romans 11:32-36 Jude 1:24-25 And since He bids me seek His face, Believe His Word and trust His grace, I'll cast on Him my every care, And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!"
