DHS targets Democratic campaign after ICE arrest in Pa.
from KYW Newsradio Audio On-Demand
The Department of Homeland Security is accused of falsely linking a Nigerian man arrested for indecent exposure to a Pennsylvania congressional candidate in a political attack. The department's press release alleges the man worked for Democratic congressional candidate Janelle Stelson, who's running against Republican Rep. Scott Perry in south-central Pennsylvania. Stelson denies that the man was a campaign employee, and campaign finance reports don’t show any payments to him. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington filed a complaint, calling the department's attack a violation of the Hatch Act. The act prohibits government officials from using their positions to influence elections. The DHS did not respond to questions about the basis for its claim. Its press release cited a news report quoting a conservative activist who asserted the connection. (Photo by Michael M. Santiago/Getty Images)
