我们把乡土社会看成一个静止的社会不过是为了方便，尤其在和现代社会相比较时，静止是乡土社会的特点，但是事实上完全静止的社会是不存在的，乡土社会不过比现代社会变得慢而已。说变得慢，主要的意思自是指变动的速率，但是不同的速率也引起了变动方式上的殊异。我在本文里将讨论乡土社会速率很慢的变动中所形成的变动方式。
