邑南町の鹿子原(かねこばら)集落では、毎年7月20日に島根県の無形民族文化財にも登録されている「虫送り」が行われます。昔は多くの集落で行われていた虫送りですが、現在では農業の発展によりほとんど失われてしまいました。鹿子原集落では、虫送りという行事が民族芸能まで昇華されており、しっかりと祈りを伴った神事としての側面も合わせもち、現在まで連綿と続いている大変貴重な文化です。この時期に江の川にお立ち寄りの際は是非見てみて下さい。
