The picture remains grim. Only 2.6% of Africans are fully vaccinated, making further waves inevitable. The biggest problem remains getting enough vaccines. And with many rich countries prioritising booster shots, this may soon become harder. African leaders, however, hope that schemes to produce more covid-19 vaccines in Africa itself could help fill the gap.
