They host around one-quarter of the Earth’s marine species. But they are vanishing fast. Between 2009 and 2018 14% of the world’s coral disappeared, mainly because of climate change, according to the Global Coral Reef Monitoring Network, a research group. However, in the right conditions some corals can regenerate.
