Diamonds for the Poor (S17 Episode3)
from The Nexus Podcast Hosted by Brad Watson
Friends, we are back at it again, and the word is that we will be back in Iona Hall this Sunday, which feels like great news! But, as we continue our journey of learning the art of reading Scripture well, I want to ask this Sunday what it is that connects a diamond ring, the Working Centre, and parents who wear pajamas to school drop-off? This Sunday, we are going to follow a surprising story from Dorothy Day into one of Scripture’s most familiar, and most demanding, assertions: that every person bears the image of God. Now, saying things like “all people are created equal” feels commonplace and obvious to us, but in a world constantly judging and ranking us, what exactly do we mean by that? Along the way, I will have a few little rants and petty grievances to share with you all, but it is all aimed at us considering an important question: can we recognize someone’s dignity when we don’t admire them, agree with them, or understand their life? From political loyalties to the suffering on our own downtown streets, we’ll explore what it takes to keep seeing the humanity in one another.
