电子书阅读器轻薄又省电，用它来看书对视力的损害比ipad和手机小多了。阅读器的屏幕实际只有黑白两色，灰色是用黑白调和而成的。黑白两色来自屏幕中的小颗粒。这些小颗粒分别被正负电荷吸引。如果是正电荷，则白色颗粒显示在屏幕上，看上去是白点；如果是负电荷，则黑色颗粒显示在屏幕上，看上去是黑点。所以改变屏幕间的电荷正负极，就可以改变像素点的颜色，显示出字和图案了。
