Dickens’ The Chimes: Gob Bless Us, Every One

from Fire the Canon · host Jackie, Rachel, Theo

A new year is upon us, and what better way to celebrate than to continue our tradition of joking our way through each of Charles Dickens’ five Christmas Books? In ‘The Chimes: A Goblin Story of Some Bells that Rang an Old Year Out and a New Year In,’ a poor old man learns a valuable lesson about the dangers of tripe consumption. Theo reveals a newer, more sultry side. Jackie wishes we wouldn’t sexualize everything. Rachel fondly recalls a childhood friend with a surprising talent. We all get very confused, but it’s not our fault. Topics include: an actually super timely and appropriate moral message, New Year’s resolutions, The Killers, racist eggs, surfboard livin’, rudely dying on your friends, stealing from the mouths of widows and orphans, Mrs. Chickenstalker, more Muppets than Theo can imagine, the prison-industrial complex, the scent of last year’s beans, and for some reason, so, so many goblins.
