Did Every Player In This Study Gain Shoulder Strength?

from Health Research Digest with Leo and Eva · host Leo and Eva

A Vienna-led trial in Journal of Clinical Medicine tested whether added EMS could support handball throwing. Fourteen first-league men were randomised. Seven used motion-triggered NMES three times a week for six weeks. Seven copied the same shoulder work without current.  A blinded tester measured isometric external rotation strength in kilograms and 7 m throwing velocity in km/h. Every EMS player gained ER strength (+1.4 kg; p = 0.016). All tested EMS players improved endurance throwing velocity (100% vs 29%; p = 0.004). Peak speed rose in both groups. Those figures suggest EMS plus training may help tired-arm throwing. The paper came from Vienna hospitals and New York’s Hospital for Special Surgery.
