Yet, the game wasn't as out of reach as those who checked Tuesday morning may have thought. Without starting quarterback Cam Newton, Brian Hoyer assumed the role under center. As a seasoned veteran, his performance was lackluster. Still, the score was separated by three heading into halftime. Jarrett Stidham relieved his teammate entering the fourth quarter and managed to lead the offense down the field for a touchdown. However, that productivity stalled shortly thereafter.
