Nach dem Tod des Vizechefs der Hamas, Saleh al-Aruri, bei einer Explosion in der libanesischen Hauptstadt Beirut ist noch immer unklar, wer hinter dem Angriff steckt. Die Hisbollah-Miliz hat angekündigt, sich für den Tod von Al-Aruri an Israel zu rächen. Um eine Eskalation des Konfliktes zu verhindern, reist der US-Sondergesandte Amos Hochstein in den Nahen Osten, er soll zwischen Libanon und Israel vermitteln. Steffi Hentschke, Israelkorrespondentin für ZEIT ONLINE, schätzt die Eskalationsgefahr ein und berichtet über die aktuelle innenpolitische Stimmung Israels. Seit Mittwoch haben die Assistenzärztinnen und -ärzte in Großbritannien ihren bisher längsten Streik in der Geschichte des Nationalen Gesundheitssystems (NHS) begonnen.
