Im Dezember 2011 möchte die 26-jährige Krankenpflegeschülerin Elisabeth S. das erste Mal alleine, in der Wohnung ihres Verlobten in Thale ( Harz) übernachten. Michael* musste nämlich in der Nacht auf den 14. Dezember 2011 eine Nachtschicht in der Brauerei in Wernigerode übernehmen. Michael lebte in Thale in seinem Elternhaus, im Erdgeschoss lebten seine Eltern und im Obergeschoss hatte er, eine eigene Wohnung. Elisabeth kommt irgendwann am späten Abend oder in der Nacht bei Michael an, sie hat einen Schlüssel für seine Wohnung. Am Ende aber, gegen 4:00 Uhr in der Nacht, rufen Michaels Eltern die Feuerwehr, denn es brannte im Obergeschoss, und später, wird auch Elisabeths Leiche dort gefunden und es scheint am Ende alles anders, wie angenommen.
