Differences in form do not matter

In 2nd grade, I had a dream one night that the teacher re-arranged the classroom such that I was sitting next to my best friend Robbie. The next morning, sure enough, the teacher announced she was changing all the desks. And I was seated next to Robbie.I was less interested in the coincidental premonition and much more attuned to my joy at the new seating assignment. I had other friends, but Robbie was my best friend.As I progressed through school, I had some teachers I liked, some not so much, and then there was my favorite teacher.And so it is through life. There are degrees of goodness and badness, and at the extremes are the best and the worst. Best friend. Best boss. Best lover. Best vacation. Best meal. And so forth. Until another best comes along. Same with worst.But all these comparisons and degrees of good & bad do nothing but separate us. I love this line from A Course in Miracles that says, “Differences in form do not matter.”Differences in form means not only the unique physical characteristics we all possess but also “inner” traits such as personality, character, and depth.They do not matter!What matters is that we are all the same. Everyone. No exception.We all share the same wrong-minded thought system of the ego that is based on fear and will do everything it thinks it needs to do to allay those fears.We also all share the same right-minded thought system of love or oneness or spirit or divinity or any other term you want to use. This thought system reminds us of our true nature - which is a oneness joined as one. It reminds us that this world is an illusion - a cosmic dream if you will, although oftentimes more like a nightmare. But we will all awaken to the heavenly blissful oneness that we never left.And we all share the same decision maker that in every moment is choosing between these two thought systems.So the next time we are tempted to see degrees of goodness or badness, let’s remember that it’s all the same.Support the show
