Digging Into the Parks, Soils, and Water Tax with Jim Plassmeyer

from Digging In with Missouri Farm Bureau · host Digging In with Missouri Farm Bureau

On this week’s Diggin' In with MOFB, Jim Plassmeyer joins the program talking all things Amendment 1. As the Director of the Soil and Water Conservation Program Jim has a front row seat to the impact of the Parks, Soils, and Water Tax. The program's main responsibility is to assist the soil and water conservation district in each of Missouri’s 114 counties as they promote voluntary soil and water conservation to their constituents. The districts provide financial incentives, technical assistance, education and best practices to agricultural landowners and operators, working with state and federal conservation partners. Jim has been serving the program for over 25 years. A YES vote on Amendment 1 continues Missouri’s existing one-tenth-of-one percent sales tax that funds state parks and historic sites, as well as critical soil and water conservation programs for another 10 years. The measure does not create a new tax or increase taxes. It renews a voter-approved funding source that has been supported by Missourians since 1984 and generates about $140 million annually for conservation and outdoor recreation. By voting yes, Missourians can help protect farmland and improve water quality, while ensuring future generations can continue to enjoy Missouri’s state parks and historic sites.
