Summary
Have you been CRAVING a break from your phone and social media? Join us for a digital detox. Week 1 starts now. Let's do it. Why should I do a digital detox? The average person picks up their phone 150 times a day. That’s once every 6 minutes. Once every 6 minutes! Just how a juice cleanse or a type of fasting is meant to clean up the toxins in your body and release the hold that foods or habits have on your mind, a digital detox is meant to cleanse your brain’s reliance from our devices. Devices are not inherently bad. Technology is a great tool, but we want to loosen the grip that it has on us. Let’s make sure we are using our devices and not the other way around. Take a look at your phone’s settings, the iPhone and Android offer data that measures your screen time. It’s not uncommon to see 2+ hours spent on social media every day. Think of all the experiences you could be having by just cutting that in half. What could you do with an additional hour each day? How long is the detox? The detox lasts for 14 days. You can of course introduce it into your own lifestyle after the two weeks is completed. We think two weeks is enough time for you to realize how beneficial less screen can be. What are the rules? Detoxing means no Instagram, Facebook, Netflix, YouTube, dating apps, etc. It’s best to steer clear of them all. You can still use apps such as Yelp or Google Maps and check your email. It’s not exactly a hard core detox since we can still use our phones during these two weeks. The purpose isn’t to live a life of seclusion, it’s actually the opposite. Social media and other digital services can suck our time away from us and silo us away from the world. This isn’t a digital hate club. This is “let’s take control of our devices" club. Week 1 Alright, y’all. There is no time to waste. Let’s jump in! Your goal this week is to choose ONE day to indulge in social media, Netflix, and YouTube. My day of choice is Sunday. Do not look at any social media, Netflix, or YouTube the other days. I recommend that you journal your reflections during the detox journey. See you in a week!
