DIGITAL RADIO MANDIALE - WORLD RADIO DAY

DRM is a digital sound broadcasting standard that is currently being adopted by numerous countries around the world, some doing tests and others have trials on air. DRM is more energy efficient than analogue broadcasting contributing to the theme of this year's world radio day - climate sustainability. DRM's other feature, other than crystal clear audio and data services, is the very important emergency warning functionality (EWF). In disaster situations where infrastructure in cities may be damaged / destroyed, DRM can beam a signal to the affected areas warning citizens about the disaster and what they need to be doing. In commemoration of World Radio Day, we spoke to Aldred Dreyer, the Chairperson of DRM South Africa.
