Digmi Discussions Interview #37 - Kelly Nicholson

from DIG YOUR DREAM · host Ray Digmi

On Digmi Discussions Interview #37, Ray Digmi catches up with 4x Cape Cod Baseball League Manager of the Year - Orleans Firebirds Manager and High School educator, Kelly Nicholson. Nicholson, a native of Corona California, talks about growing up on the west coast and how the love for sports in childhood days led him to a life education both in the classroom and on the baseball diamond. A graduate of Loyola Marymount University, he followed in his fathers footsteps and Nicholson began a career in high school education, where he has spent 37 years at Loyola High School. It was there we he also began a career in coaching baseball - a journey that has included being the head coach at Loyola High, the pitching coach at Loyola Marymount University, as well as working with Team USA during the 2000 season. But it was in the Cape Code Baseball League, where the “Coach K” of baseball may have made his biggest impact. In the most prestigious collegiate baseball league in the country, Nicholson has been part of the Orleans Firebirds Organization for 20 years, starting as the teams pitching coach and eventually taking over as their manager in 2005. During his tenure, he has coached hundreds of the most talented collegiate baseball players in the country, while also mentoring some of the brightest young coaches in the game. Listen to Nicholson talk about his passion for the game of baseball, which believe it or not was not his first sports love, what it means to him to have the opportunity to have a positive impact on young people, how the practice of meditation has changed his life, and why, even during these uncertain times, he is as optimistic as ever for the future of our country. An incredible discussion with a man that embodies, class, integrity and positivity.
