Dignity For The Ugandan Worker

from comm-UNITY! · host comm-UNITY!

In this episode, we continue our conversation on social security amongst the community of workers in Uganda with Dr. Phiona Muhwezi Mpanga, Lecturer at The School Of Law, Makerere University. Focusing more broadly on social protection, which includes but is not limited to pay, she highlights the importance of this protection in maintaining workers' dignity (both in the formal and informal sectors). From the terms of work to the hours of work, the security of tenure, and gender equality reforms. We reflect on the ways this lockdown has foregrounded these existing issues, the need for workers to mobilize and articulate the needs of their community collectively, and the need to hold the government accountable for all the citizens within this working community.
