He Was Diagnosed With Stage 4 Cancer on His 25th Birthday and Spent Two Years Ignoring the Signs
from The Dad Project · host Nemash Patel
Dilan spent two years living with symptoms he didn’t understand. Itchy skin, night sweats, fatigue and lumps in his neck all appeared long before he realised something was wrong. He thought it was stress, heat or dry skin. He never imagined cancer. Two weeks before his 25th birthday he went to the GP. The doctor printed a referral form and the word “cancer” was written at the top. On his 25th birthday he sat in front of a haematologist and heard the words “stage 4B Hodgkin’s lymphoma.” He says that for the first two or three days he genuinely thought he was going to die. In this episode Dilan talks about fear, identity loss and the emotional collapse that came with the diagnosis. He explains how his mother became his anchor, how friendships changed and what it felt like to shift from a healthy young man to a cancer patient overnight. He shares the treatment, the breakdowns and the mindset that helped him fight. He also talks about rebuilding his body, confidence and purpose through habits, discipline and gratitude. This is a powerful story about survival, perspective and learning to value every part of life again.
