Direction, Week 6 - Day 2: Standing Out with Purpose
from Pastor Steve’s Daily Devotionals · host Village Church RVA
Direction, Week 6Day 2: Standing Out with PurposeDevotionalJesus called us to be salt, light, and a city on a hill. Notice what these three things have in common — they all stick out. Salt preserves and flavors. Light pierces darkness. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. If your Christian life blends seamlessly into the culture around you, something is wrong. This doesn’t mean being weird for the sake of being weird — that’s not a spiritual gift. It means living with such integrity, love, and truth that people notice something different about you. When Daniel refused the king’s food, he stood out. When the Hebrew boys wouldn’t bow to the statue, they stood out. When early Christians refused to participate in idol worship, they stood out. Standing out isn’t about being difficult or argumentative. It’s about living according to God’s design in a world that has rejected His ways. Your distinctiveness as a Christian should make people curious about the hope you carry.Bible Verse“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” — Matthew 5:14 (ESV)Reflection QuestionIn what specific ways does your life stand out from the culture around you, and what does that say about your commitment to following Christ?Quote“If you do not in any way stick out from sinful culture, that does not say good things about you, friend.”PrayerFather, help me live in a way that reflects Your light in this dark world. Give me courage to stand out for the right reasons.
