Episode Description
The United Nations office for disaster risk reduction, UNISDR, estimates that over 3 hundred billion dollars is lost every year as a result of natural disasters across the world. The organisation says this loss is mostly incurred in poor communities who have little or no resources to mitigate and reduce the risk of disasters. At the official opening of the Third World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in the city of Sendai in Japan over the weekend, Secretary General of the UN Ban Ki Moon called for international solidarity in response to the needs of poor- disaster prone communities.
