Disaster plan ruling for NYC - Dream Catchers - How it applies to the ADA

from Z Z Archive 2014 · host Brain Injury Radio

Tonights show is very Important to all people every where with disabilities because it has Major implications for the saftey of everyone living with any where in the USA and beyond! A year after Super storm Sandy stranded many New Yorkers without power for days, a federal judge has ruled that New York City's emergency plans violate the Americans with Disabilities Act. Those shortcomings, the judge found, leave almost 900,000 residents in danger, and many say the ruling could have implications for local governments across the country. Shortly before Sandy hit the East Coast last October, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg addressed a nervous city, urging people in the most flood-prone areas to evacuate. "We have a plan to keep you and New Yorkers safe," he said. "If you follow that plan, we'll get through this storm just fine." But that plan didn't work for everyone. In the chaotic days after the storm, stories emerged of people trapped in darkened high-rises, struggling to survive. With Les Paul the Dream Catcher on Brain Injury Survivors Network, Stay Informed and this will be a series of programs!
