Peter, one of Jesus' disciples, names Him as the long awaited Messiah, then recoils when Jesus says He must suffer, die, and rise. Jesus refuses the easier path and heads towards the cross, where His saving work makes discipleship possible. Grace comes first. Those He has saved can now follow Him as Lord by rejecting self rule, dying to what destroys, and giving their lives to Jesus and the gospel.
