About the Author Jo'mel Williams Powell, a proud native of Detroit, Michigan, was shaped by the vibrant yet challenging culture of the city’s westside. From an early age, Jo’mel discovered his passion for storytelling, pouring his experiences into short stories, poetry, and rap. By his teens, music became his focus, as he wrote and recorded songs that reflected both his environment and his search for purpose. At just 19, Jo’mel felt a divine calling that transformed his life. He left behind the path of a small-time hustler to answer God’s call, becoming a minister and channeling his talents into Christian rap. As a member of a gospel rap group, he traveled across the Midwest, inspiring audiences with his music. When the group disbanded, he continued his mission as a solo artist under the name The I.O.G. (Instrument of God), before joining forces with The Sonz Of Thunda, completing two powerful projects that resonated with fans nationwide. But Jo’mel’s story didn’t stop there. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, it deeply impacted his family, including his wife’s long-term disability. Out of this pain, God inspired Jo’mel to share his journey through writing. His debut book, A Marriage Broken by COVID Produced Diamonds for You, is a testament to faith, resilience, and the lessons learned through adversity. It’s the first of many works he plans to share, with the goal of motivating others and rekindling their hope in life’s darkest moments. Through every project, Jo’mel’s mission is clear: to be a vessel for God, bringing encouragement to the weary and leading the lost to the saving grace of Jesus Christ. His powerful voice—whether through music or the written word—continues to inspire and uplift, proving that even in life’s trials, God can produce diamonds.
