Discussing the Texas CHIPS Act with Ed Latson, CEO, Austin Regional Manufacturers Association

from The BG Podcast · host The Bingham Group, LLC

Today's episode features returning guest, Ed Latson, CEO, Austin Regional Manufacturers Association (ARMA). He and Bingham Group CEO A.J. continue a discussion around Central Texas's position in the national semiconductor sector, sparked by last year's passage of the CHIPS Act (see RELATED EPISODES below). Today's topic turns to two proposals at the Texas Legislature for the Texas Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors Act, or Texas CHIPS Act. The proposed legislation would boost workforce training programs for the industry, give higher education institutions a larger role in development, and create the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Consortium and Fund. The Texas CHIPS Act has the support of Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) and two bills , SB 2288 and HB 5174 have been filed respectively by Senate Finance Committee Chair Joan Huffman (R), and House Appropriations Committee Chair Greg Bonnen (R). As of this posting, SB 2288 has referred to the Senate Finance Committee, and HB 5174 has been referred to the House State Affairs Committee.
