Natalie begins the show speaking about the past six weeks of war and how life was in Susya; her guest Lizzy joins the show and shares her Aliyah story which began with her involvement with Chabad at University in Salt Lake City, then Birthright, followed by learning in Seminary, and then a MASA program as an English Teaching Fellow. Lizzie explains that teaching through MASA afforded her an opportunity to live in Israel on a six-month visa, which then allowed her to experience living here and working here...she stayed, made aliyah officially while already here, and continues teaching today. Having open and honest conversations about antisemitism and Israel/Palestine is difficult for Jews and non-Jews alike. Meeting at irregular intervals, Jews Schmooze brings together a group of progressive Jews with a range of political and religious outlooks who press pause on the rhetoric, to talk all things Jewish in the news(ish). If you like semitics really looking at the semantics of what it means to be Jewish and progressive, this is for you.
