Here is some of Sumit's story in his own words: About himself: When within the age of 16 you tend to undergo major surgeries, some of them spanning up to 8 hours You tend to understand the concept of mortality You understand that you have a finite amount of time on this planet You understand that it is not only about your own battles But the victories you win for others Making the world a better place On his support system: I wasn’t always the strong person I am today I was broken, disheartened, cursed my disability. “Why me?” I often wondered But then having a strong and supporting mother makes you realize That if you want to succeed in life, you don’t have the luxury of falling apart On his accidental entrepreneurship: Out of the 3 crore population of persons with disabilities in India, only 34 lakhs of them are actually employed I had to search 3 months for jobs before I finally gave up and became an accidental entrepreneur Not everyone is so ‘lucky’ Where are we lacking as a country? Is it that as Indians we collectively lack empathy? Otherwise, how could we deny someone their basic rights to financial dignity?
