Divine Discipline
A good father will discipline his children. Likewise, God disciplines us as his children to produce holiness within us, and to form us into the likeness of Jesus. The way we live is an example to the world of Jesus’ ways, and the power of the Holy Spirit in us.
What this episode covers
PART 3: ENDURANCE “For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised”. Hebrews 10:36 Hebrews was penned for weary urban Christians. The letter was written to encourage Jewish Christians (hence the title Hebrews) enduring a time of trial. Believers who were navigating pluralistic societies similar to our own. Christians who lived in cities where Jesus and Christianity were not respected or understood. The author wrote to persecuted Christians who felt discouraged and isolated, Jewish Christians who were tempted to either drift away towards worldliness or fall back towards Judaism. In response to opposition and persecution, the author of Hebrews encourages us to fix our eyes on Jesus and the unshakeable kingdom he’s ushering in. The author doesn’t end this book by giving us a cosy blanket for us to wrap ourselves up in and hide from the world. No, it ends with a challenge to have faith that endures to have a faith like the heroes of the faith. 🎧 Podcast can be accessed via https://resources.cityonahill.com.au/
