We often value wealth so much that we believe rich people to be touched by god, or fate, or whatever you believe in, to rule over us, that we must sacrifice ourselves (and our health) for the good of the economy, as if it were a religion. If economies failed during a king’s reign or a president’s tenure, then it must be his fault, divinely willed, in a sense.
