Raw impressions, episode number seven. New years resolutions. Looking forward into 2023, I want to give myself permission to do things out of that skeletal outline the calendar year tells me when things are. So in January, I might be buying someone a Christmas present for Christmas of 2023, just because it's there and I want to be in advance if it feels good.
I don't want to be cynical about that, but what can happen is he can purchase a present for someone and then forget that you've purchased it and then that gift can languish on a countertop, kind of shelf, and be forgotten. Well, so Christmas rolls around. So now on top of, damn it, well, you just dashed my dreams. I just reminded you that we had purchased something from my sister, Abby.
You're right. We had done that in advance. We did that almost a year ago, and we put it right there on the floor of our little work room. Where is that thing?
It's on the floor of our little work room. It is. I know where it is. Oh, well, then it's not missing.
Great. We'll wrap it up. We're working together. You know, I think, you know, I think, um, wait, so that was a perfectly fine thing.
We did in advance. You remembered. It did take a team effort to remember. I think that also maybe I can help you a little more in the future.
Thanks. I think this, I take this very male role. I take this very kind of like, I mean, yeah, well, and a lot of times, right? It's because we don't have the option.
Women don't have the option. Your mom and dad work really well together. They do. They have a very, um, I don't want to use the word woke, but they did, when they got together in the 1960s, they did come together.
It'd be in the context of a lot of the larger changes that were happening, women's rights and their relationship reflected that, I think. Yeah. Which is pretty cool. That's true.
I, there, I would say very much equals when it comes to their partnership and not in a cynical way. My dad's not like, look at me doing this for you. He genuinely takes on an equal and interested role because I think he wants to. Yeah, your dad's good.
I think he wants to. And he also just, he just does. It's just, I don't know. It's just who he is.
Also an inspiration. You've got some, you, you've got some inspiration in your family and you've got it to you inspire me to live a better life. Well, I do remember for many years, you would say, what would Dave Atkinson do? I would.
That's my dad. And it's true. I still ask myself that. What would they do?
I, when I have to ask myself, you know, so we have this, this deck collapsing in the back of our house. It's a hold. It's just, it's a hazard. It's really bad.
I've covered it with a outdoor, outdoor carpet. So the children aren't like stepping on nails and slivers. Yeah. But what would Dave Atkinson do?
He'd rebuild that deck. He would absolutely. He'd build that deck. He'd build more than one deck on family homes for me.
I'm not going to be rebuilding any decks anytime soon, if ever. And I'm okay with that. I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not the handy guy. I'm not going to throw up some drywall.
Please don't. Actually, that's good to know what you can and can't do. And I, well, I would like to say that yes, if you feel like working on a more equal partnership with me in different aspects where I'm carrying more of the load, I would obviously welcome that. This is specifically for Christmas.
Oh, I'm thinking about that right now. You're just like, I'm only offering an equal partnership with Christmas. Well, then don't get too excited. I'll do the dishes.
I could do some light prep for food. I can't shop things. I mean, it's not the best idea. I can cut myself.
And also you get distracted and take forever. Sorry. It's just true. And I'm not trying to be overly critical or anything.
I was like, no, you, that's sweet that you want to help, but you know, you will actually make, you will drag this in. If it makes more work, it makes more work in the end. I am willing to do things. Tails oldest time.
Yeah. Well, I think that's the thing is maybe we can be honest about what, where, look at your role and go, where would it be helpful? And yes, actually with Christmas, it would be helpful if you would share some of that load with me. And maybe we can go forth in 2023 talking about that.
I like that. That gets me excited. Thank you. You're welcome.
Hopefully. Now that I'm thinking about, do I really have it in me? I mean, because I do, I still do have that Christmas resistance. This terrible man.
Just, I'm not a good gift buyer. Those are all excuses. Yeah, it is. Because you just said yourself.
It's thought the counts. You said it earlier. Give me Hendricks the advice. So give yourself this damn advice.
So much easier to give other people a show up. Show up for me this Christmas Christ. Keep Christ there or don't. You know what?
Show up for me this Christmas. That's probably a good Christmas song in there. And that's actually right now is a good time to start working on Christmas songs for next year. When you work on the father love or.
Yeah. Now, if I was truly pulling the strings with dinosaur junior, I would have us in the studio this January. Like, Hey guys, we're going to take five days in the studio and we are going to record. Good King Wentzless, you know, in dinosaur junior fashion.
We're going to do silver bells. We're going to do. We're going to do the classics as a as the three piece with the sound. The cohesion that people expect of dinosaur junior, but apply it to the Christmas cannon.
That would be incredible. And I'd like to see that someday. You're putting your, maybe you're putting your intention into the boss. Well, I was.
I did want to point out that Adele, what she got me for Christmas this year was kind of a surprise. I would have never guessed this gift that you got me. It is three large yeti drink cups. I mean, they're cups with a heavy plastic top with a big plastic straw in there.
But they're all yellow. They're kind of a dark yellow and they're all are personalized. So it says loo, you know, in lowercase on each one in silver. And there's three of them because this is as you've noticed, it's about as much water that I drink during the course of a night and then immediately upon waking in the morning.
But usually I have my my water in precariously placed print glasses on a very small nightstand. But you have what you're looking to do is replace that. Create a safer environment with these three large yeti containers. And what I do, what I like about this, which you probably didn't think of, although you did buy yellow, which is great because I have a hard time with darker colors.
I can I can miss I missed things all the time. I can't find my phone. I have like a. That's why I bought you yellow.
I said to myself, he's the brightest color. They do. I have a black phone case. So I am consequently always pinging my own phone to find out that it's like right next to me.
Yeah. But anyway, the one thing that I like about these, and I don't know if I articulated this to you, Adele, is that they are this yellow color reminds me of a concentrated urine of a dehydrated person. So when I'm looking at this, I'm like, I have I am compelled towards these because I want my urine to be clear. I do not want it to have this dark hue because that is unhealthy.
And it indicates dehydration. So your gift is practical, possibly safe, possibly like saving like a some terrible mishap from glass crashing glasses flying off that tiny nice nightstand. Maybe maybe not just me knocking it off with my hand, but maybe like an errant pillow falling, which is a real big possibility. I visualize all of these possibilities.
We have too many pillows. That's kind of thing. We have so many pillows on our bed. So wait, are you saying that?
I don't know if I want any less. Exactly. Okay. The Yeti mug.
Do you so are you vibing my Christmas gift, honey? I am. I've had this thing look. I have it right in front of me right now.
Exactly. And I think my gift worked. You're carrying it around. What I like about the Yeti.
You've got it. And you're just like, come here. I like about the Yeti. And I don't want to speak too much of it until I feel like because right now I will get the compulsion then to make a commercial about Yeti.
And I don't want to do that right now. I want to work on full compulsion songs. I do not want to spend the next two days crafting a 30 second jingle about Yeti. Okay.
Don't do it. It's fine. Okay. Bigger and better than Bigfoot, the mighty Yeti signs images of ferocity and power.
Yeti. Appearances matter. And when you want to look like you care about hydration, try shelving one of these cannon shells into your cupboard. Yeti.
Yeti. Look at you looking for the toilet. The power of hydration exists unlike the mythical Yeti. Yeti.
That's a good gift. I like it. Thank you. So I, well, you, so wait, why are you surprised though that I got this for you?
Surprised? You said you were surprised. Well, we've got a lot of these kind of cups in the house already. We do.
It's not the most necessary purchase. So I am surprised because it's not that it's not that it's impractical because I was, I just described the practical why it's practical, how I'm going to use it, how it will transform the way that I hydrate. But viewing that we, you know, considering that we do have a lot of these cups now, not just yet. Not like that.
Okay. These are three quite large. These are particularly large in ounces. And I was thinking of how many glasses that you were trying to precariously put on that little nightstand.
So I was looking at your intention, your water intention. You were like, intake. Yeah. And also your intentions of drinking it because you don't actually intake all of that every night.
It's your intentions, right? That's true. Yeah. Thank you.
Yeah. It's your water intention and possibly intake. Anywho, she so a woman finisher damn sentence here. What I'm trying to say is I, I have been suffering dear with these glasses.
I've been in silent suffering, worrying about what you have been bringing to the nightstand night after night, these clanking glasses. And I have been worrying about all of those things you described. What could happen if I knocked down, let's say if I knocked a couple of pint glasses onto the floor, onto our hardwood floor in the middle of the night. It would be awful.
It would be really shitty. And there'd be glass everywhere. And I've also been living with the fear of hitting that power strip. The water splashing onto the power strip.
I don't know. Okay. It's just to be like, so to tell you that I've been in hell. Okay.
Well, you know, when I've been tortured, when I first started putting those glasses there, I knew I was like, this is going to be difficult for a Dell. But hydrating is extremely important. Yes. I, hydrating is important.
I had to balance. I'm like, this is going to make a Dell uncomfortable. I need to be hydrated. I made that.
And you know, I have successfully and have not dropped one of those glasses in the last four months of doing that. So to my credit, to my credit, I have not, there was, there's been, this is what could happen. And this is what it's funny that you're talking about now. This is what could happen.
Middle of the night. Two or three of those pint glasses go down. Water is splashed on the power strip. Yeah, it sparks.
Right. It's, it sparks. Right. It's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it starts a fire.
Exactly. I get up to run away from the fire. I step on a huge piece of glass from one of the, so I've cut myself. Yeah.
Beepley, severely. I've severely lacerated my foot on my bare foot. Because you sleep without socks. I do, I put socks on.
I, I go to bed with the intention of wearing socks all night, but I take them off in the middle of the night. Yes. And they're all on the bottom of the bed. They are.
And then I eventually had to do a little spelunking now and again. Yeah. Socks spelunking. I gotta go find all those missing socks.
Where are your socks? We're all mess up. What always looks like we have like a cat or something that's, burrowed itself, you know, in the bottom of the bed. Cause there's just this like kind of worm shaped log that forms down there and it's your socks.
Anyway, yes. What happens is the, the, the theoretical, uh, you know, the theoretical, what? I'm help. Help.
My brain. Where are you going? I'm trying to complete it. Damn.
You're saying the what, what? The theoretical story that could unfold. The scene. The scene in your mind.
Yes. Has a, the, the, the tragic scene that's unfolding because of these glasses. Yes. It has tortured me and we've lost everything in the process.
We have, we have, and you're injured on top of it all. You're in. The house is burning down. We're shivering in the cold outside.
Yeah. And then you're dehydrated on top of it all with our children. God in pajamas and I'm not even wearing good pajamas because I, people, I need to do pajamas. Okay.
So what I'm saying is the hellscape you've created with these pint glasses of water on that tiny little nightstand. God, geez. So yes, it, I, hey, I actually, now I'm realizing Pat, my little self on the back. I did in advance.
I've had these yetis for so long. This is, these yetis are exactly what you're talking about. This, you are, this is for the future. You've done the advance thinking.
You, you saw what could happen. You've played the scenarios out in your brain. You purchased these three containers for me. This coming year, a little bit safer.
Yeah. It's not a lot safer. Yes. And possibly more hydrating.
Well, yes. Hydration is. straw will really be your, the straw is, it's a nice, thick straw. It is.
I like your lip. The liquid draw from those. It's satisfying. Because one thing I liked about my, my pint glasses and this is a, my, you know, this is my attachment to glasses and one of the reasons that I did do such a dangerous thing.
But I really love sipping from a pint glass. Yeah, you do. It's the right amount of like, it's the good mouth, good mouth feel. The right amount of liquid enters the mouth.
It's, it's a really sad. I can pick it up like in the morning. If I'm like, I'm up and I'm hydrating and like, bam, one full pint, one, one, one real pole. Yeah.
Really satisfying. Yep. This Yeti with its, its straw. Yeah.
Okay. And then on that note, last shout out to Creighton Barrel because that's where I got those pint glasses. They're just a really classic, very affordable. pint glass.
You buy them like by the case. They're meant to be for new couples starting their life. So they're affordable, useful, come in like a huge pile. And they're also there for pretentious people like myself because like you want to say, I want to drink, I want to pretend I'm in an English pub.
I am, I am drinking a frothy, bodington's, bodington's, organis out of this royal measure. Yeah. The royal measure of the pipe with the little, with the little insignia. Uh huh.
You know, yeah. It's satisfying. I don't think it's pretentious at all. I think that people of all walks of life desire and enjoy a nice pint.
pint glass. pint glass. It could be anything in their water, a bodington's juice, a sprite. I don't know.
But a pint glass is satisfying. Wicked. I think that it's, I think that's a not pretentious at all. I think that that's very norm core of you.
How do we describe what just happened? I don't know. It was a journey. It was an epic hydration adventure.
Yeah. We talked a lot about those Yeti bottles. If you're still here, we have. If you made it this far.
Yeah. If you've made it this far, we have a wonderful little going out for you for the end of 2022. Uh, a treat. Yeah.
Adele had the idea that we should ask a lot of people. We should ask some people about what their new year's resolution would be. And um, I ended up asking one person. Yeah.
We went with just one. Yeah. I was too self-conscious to just ask everybody, but there was one person that we really wanted to ask. He's a father, a husband, a musician.
And I think a decent guy, all around good guy. If this resolution has any indication, this resolution feels like my resolution. Yeah, it does. There was a so familiar.
Yeah. This was a really nice surprise and it was very, uh, very fortunate and very grateful for Pete Jorn. Pete Jorn. Giving us his resolution.
Aloe Adele to Pete Jorn. Thanks for having me. You know, I've never been too big on New Year's resolutions, uh, especially in recent years. I think younger, you know, I'd quit booze for a month or, you know, I don't know.
I never thought about it too much, but I always joke with my wife. Like Valentine's Day or birthday is the next day on the February 15th. But I'm always like, it's Valentine's Day, but every day is Valentine's Day. I try to, you know, live my life like that.
Like every day is a special day. And sometimes you go to sleep and forget to do that. But, you know, um, if I'm going to recommit to anything, just, you know, just keep up what I've been doing. I was like, making sure I meditate every day for even just 12 minutes.
Um, making sure I get my workouts in five to six days a week for sure. Usually jumping rope. And, uh, maybe cut out the Burger King a little bit, maybe like once a month instead of twice a month. Um, but other than that, yeah, just being present with my daughter, you know, like, as much as possible.
And I try to be, but you know, and everyone that I interact with in my life, I think, uh, you know, sometimes it could be half on your phone and half paying attention to what they're saying and just trying to really engage with people in a very present way. Yeah, it's all nerdy, boring stuff. But that's like, everyone has a great year. And, uh, and if you fall off the wagon early, they'll be too hard on yourself.
Okay, every day is a new day. Cheers.
