DK Palecek - Painting Curiosity

from Artful Painter

DK Palecek is a painter who embraces her left-brain-centric worldview. Starting with degrees in both Math and Finance, she worked as a mathematician, served as an investment banker, became a venture capitalist, and is a serial entrepreneur. In that career trajectory, painting fine art was the farthest thing from her logical, left-brain mind. And yet, she was smitten by the beauty of fine art. About ten years ago she began painting outside and in the studio. It wasn't long until she was on the plein air painting circuit, represented in several galleries, became a member of several painting societies, and began teaching workshops.Deke, as she is known by her painting friends, became fascinated with brain science and the power and plasticity of the brain. In this edition of the Artful Painter, Deke discusses the implication of brain science for artists seeking to improve their painting skills. She talks about the importance of setting specific goals and turn those goals into specific actions that lead to learning new skills. Deke warns of the perils of the mental-energy sapping act of indecisiveness. An artist must decide and focus on executing that decision.Of course, Deke is not all left-brain. Her expressive paintings captures the beauty of everyday scenes. Deke's left brain and right brain unite together in an exuberant collaboration of painting curiosity.Mentioned in this episode:DK (Deke) PalecekWebsite: https://www.dkpalecek.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/palecekdk/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DKPalecek/Book: The Talent Code by Daniel Coyle https://amzn.to/3hvEW0m (affiliate link)Richard Husband's store on bigcartel https://richardhusband.bigcartel.comAbout the Artful Painter: Website: https://theartfulpainter.com/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CarlOlsonArt Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/artful.painter/This page may contain affiliate links from which I earn a small commission. Volume 1 covers a period of about 18 months, then later, Volume 2 chronicles the changes when Miss Mitford returns to the village some 2 years later. The book's subtitle is “sketches of rural character and scenery”... and this perfectly describes its contents. People and nature are minutely observed and the language reflects Miss Mitford's exquisite eye for detail and love of the changing seasons and the impact they have on the flora and fauna around her. The village characters are described mainly fondly, but not without the occasional wry reference to their faults! In her introduction to a later edition, Anne Thackeray Ritchie quotes from Miss Mitford's reply to William Elford when asked if her characters and descriptions are true......."Yes, as true as is well possible....you, as a great landscape painter know that in painting a favourite scene you do a little embellish and can
