DKT part 1

from #rtbth · host Real Talk: Beyond the Headlines

A conversation with DKT.   Darrick, Kalo, and Tunde are psychologists (in-training) in Boston. In this episode they discuss a talk they attended in Brockton, MA, by school psychologist Dr. Umar Johnson. Dr. Umar is a firebrand commentator on social and political issues, trained in the assessment and treatment of children in school settings, and the self-proclaimed Prince of Pan-Africanism. His voice and perspectives are well underrepresented in mainstream psychology, but he's found a way to be heard. DKT reflect on Umar's comments and discuss their own experiences as underrepresented minorities working in the mental health field.   Show links   https://www.instagram.com/p/CtSill8rxhf/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== https://youtu.be/VKa1HBz_CuQ https://www.apa.org/workforce/data-tools/demographics https://www.npr.org/2022/07/29/1113045369/black-men-special-education https://scholarblogs.emory.edu/historyofskiing/2022/05/03/white-as-snow-an-examination-of-race-within-skiing/ https://www.apa.org/about/policy/racism-apology https://www.psychiatry.org/news-room/news-releases/apa-apologizes-for-its-support-of-racism-in-psychi http://pure-oai.bham.ac.uk/ws/portalfiles/portal/133846899/274_Article_Text_731_2_10_20151118.pdf https://carjiescott.com/2018/06/17/cdc-report-on-fathers-involvement-proves-that-black-dads-are-most-involved-and-the-pew-research-center-reports-that-the-role-of-the-american-dad-is-changing/ https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nhsr/nhsr071.pdf
