DNA — Grip the Plow

In Luke 9, three men are drawn to Jesus, and each has something in the way. To the first, captivated by celebrity, Jesus warns the road is one of sacrifice, not comfort. To the second, Jesus exposes a fear of what others will think. To the third, a fear of his own past. The image of gripping the plow comes from hard, agrarian labor. Following Jesus is not a life of ease but counter-cultural, sweaty work. We are not saved by works, but a saved life puts in the work because the harvest is plentiful and the workers are few. The message closes with practical applications: make your life available to God, obey the Spirit's prompting, do life with people unlike you, and walk through hard times alongside others.
