DNA: What Rules Your Heart?

from Redeemer Brooklyn Hosted by Redeemer Brooklyn

05.10.2026 | In this week’s sermon by David Lee, we explore the concept of sin as idolatry and what it truly means to have our hearts ruled by something other than God. Drawing from Romans 1, we discuss how human hearts are wired to worship and how good things can easily become ultimate things that exert control over our lives. Key Points: We are all made to worship, and whatever we worship shapes our actions, motivations, and identity. Idolatry is an inordinate desire for anything other than God. There are four common "deeper" idols: power, approval, comfort, and control. True transformation isn't just behavior modification; it requires the "expulsive power of a new affection" found in the gospel. Questions Answered: What truly controls and motivates my life? How can I identify the hidden idols in my heart? Why does my life often feel stuck or in conflict? How do I effectively root out deep-seated idols?
