Do It Now Ep. 13 - with DeLisa Seals, Author/Storyteller

from DO IT NOW · host Sara Moses

Finding Strength to Heal Through Writing and Storytelling: A Conversation with Delisa Seals I recently had the pleasure of speaking with author Delisa Seals about her empowering journey of healing and self-discovery through writing. Delisa has faced immense hardship, escaping an abusive relationship with her young son during the COVID-19 pandemic. As she found refuge in a hotel room with her boy, she simultaneously pursued her college degree, helped her son with his schooling, and graduated with honors. It was during these difficult times that Delisa turned to writing as an outlet. She has now compiled her profound and moving poems into a new book titled "Clearing the Room," which serves as a testament to the power of the written word in processing trauma and loss. As Delisa explains, by sharing her story she hopes to assure other women enduring abuse that they are not alone. In our conversation, Delisa radiates remarkable warmth, strength and wisdom. Her love of writing and storytelling originates with her grandmother, who to this day remains her greatest inspiration. She offers advice to others on healing journeys: to reach out for support rather than isolate, and to celebrate the small victories that eventually lead to transformation. Delisa also shares her aspirations to bring her writing to the stage, developing a one-woman show about her grandmother as well as other storytelling events. As much as writing has helped Delisa find her voice, she now hopes to bring these stories to life through performance. I was so moved by Delisa's resilience, her vulnerability, and her compassion for others. Her book "Clearing the Room" promises to be a beacon for women overcoming their own hardships. Delisa is the embodiment of turning pain into art, and using the creative spirit to lift ourselves up. --- DeLisa Seals lived in Youngstown most of her life, but 6 years ago, she moved to a rural town in Northeast Ohio. DeLisa is a head clerk in the library in town. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from college at the age of 46 with an Associates in Business/Event Planning. She started doing storytelling two years ago but have always written and performed poetry. Lastly, DeLisa is a living testimony of how loving and patient God is. DeLisa's book 'Clearing the Room' is available on Barnes and Noble and in Ebook format on Amazon Kindle.  Links: https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/clearing-the-room-lisa-seals/1145702387?ean=9798331404871  https://www.amazon.com/Clearing-room-DeLisa-Seals-ebook/dp/B0D3ZNNPVP/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=GGTLNS3S9XJS&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.WBvgRghATy9NixxML_ZJpEGxZ4W5Ws5pl9A7Ge6ivghe9R45ttZ0-oKH4KOEQB1f0frnSevWhJEyNkXxFfv6Wx0ybirE3Y5ndk6gfhI2K-BzF9XhvK9CfCdmiR-rk_MAuWv_wFw606fbsXAQOma_5b3ZbxPsnwuYjCLjMBvm_tzQvKjRsq0VC5dTTOzcjbDnILF1s4Kotia-VxMyNGQ8xg.DqAFgeKtd1OifGpQPUXNhndfLBvXsSAJI4wXHo6cWcE&dib_tag=se&keywords=Clearing+the+room&qid=1718410650&s=books&sprefix=clearing+the+room+%2Caps%2C203&sr=1-5
