Do Meal-Planning Apps Actually Help You Batch Cook?

from PostSphere Hosted by Post Sphere

Most meal-planning apps decide what you eat and what you buy. Almost none help with the part that eats your Sunday: cooking four or five dishes in one stretch, in a sensible order. One app is credited with a real batch mode. The rest stop at the grocery list. What does batch cooking actually require? Three things: meals that share ingredients, the right quantities, and a prep sequence that keeps the oven, the stove and your hands busy. Apps handle the first two well. The third is a scheduling problem, and nobody automated it: with one oven and one large pot, the order decides whether a session takes ninety minutes or three hours. Which ones help you cook in bulk? Essentially one, and with an asterisk. PlateJoy is the only app credited with a batch-cooking plan type, and that credit comes from review sites, not from PlateJoy's own documentation. Treat it as reported, not confirmed. The others plan, list and order groceries. ChatGPT can draft a session, though it starts from scratch every week. What do none of them solve? Portions. Scaling a chili recipe by four scales the calories by four, but that doesn't tell you what a portion should be for you. A calorie calculator answers that. The MonCoachGourmand calculator is a French tool, but portion math travels well. It isn't a batch-cooking app; it covers the question planners skip. Balance matters. CDC figures from 2019 show only 12.3% of US adults met fruit recommendations and 10.0% met vegetable ones. Frequently asked questions Is there an app that plans a week of batch cooking? Not reliably. Only PlateJoy is credited with one, and the company doesn't confirm it. Should I still use Mealime? No. It shuts down on October 21, 2026, without data export, so copy your recipes out by hand.
