Do You Trust God? | Trust God's Promises | Numbers 13 | with Pastor Joshua Sanders

from Christ Community Church (Brazil, IN) · host mycccbrazil

All throughout Scripture we see God give promises to His people, but sometimes when obstacles get in the way, it can be hard to believe. It can be hard to believe that God is going to take care of your needs when your car breaks down and the bills that are going out are more than the income that is coming in. It can be hard to believe that God is guiding our steps when we cannot seem to hear the voice of the Lord. It can be hard to believe that God will give us peace when we see all the chaos and turmoil going on in the world. God gives His people promises all throughout Scripture, but life likes to throw obstacles our way that can cause us to doubt in the promises of God. Today we are going to look at a promise that God gave His people, the Israelites, in the Old Testament, and we see that they also faced some obstacles on the way to the promise. Before Israel was even established, God promised Abraham all the way in Genesis 12 that God would make his descendants a great nation and that He would give them this land that Abraham and his family were aliens in. It was a rich and bountiful land. Now, Abraham began having descendants and these descendants ended up in Egypt. They ended up becoming slaves in Egypt and the Israelites (the descendants of Abraham) began to multiply rapidly and became a great number while in bondage in Egypt. For 430 years they were in bondage in Egypt, and God then spoke to a man named Moses. In Exodus 6 we see God tell Moses about the promise that He gave his ancestor Abraham. God told Moses that He would free the Israelites from Egypt and bring them to this “Promised Land.” And as many of us know, God miraculously in the book of Exodus frees the Israelites from Egypt. Then the Israelites end up in the wilderness as they are seeking to get to this land that God promised. And this is where we are going to be reading in this sermon. The Israelites are in the wilderness, right on the edge of this promised land, and they are getting impatient.
