Dobbins Out for 2026-2027 Season | St. Louis News

Hunter Dobbins, the Cardinals’ promising young pitcher, is sidelined for the rest of 2026 and most of 2027 after undergoing elbow reconstructive surgery — his second on that arm — with a grueling 12-month recovery ahead. The injury, confirmed by a specialist who previously operated on his elbow in 2021, dashes hopes for his immediate return and deepens the team’s pitching woes. Acquired in a trade that sent Contreras to Boston, Dobbins was seen as a key piece for St. Louis’ future, especially with a solid 3.67 ERA in 11 outings before the setback. His career has been shadowed by injuries, including a torn ACL in 2025, and now this major elbow procedure leaves fans waiting — and creates openings for other arms to step up in the rotation.
