Send us Fan MailWhat kind of emotions does the word perfection evoke in you? If we are talking about food, it might be a very exciting, complimentary word. But if we are talking about our moral, mental, or physical presence, it is a very overbearing word. The understanding that God is perfect is both intimidating as well as alienating. We don't even really know what perfection is though we feel the pressure to live up to someone's notion of it. Does this pressure come from God? Does God demand perfection from us? The Bible has a lot to say about perfection and righteousness. The Bible talks about things like "being made perfect" (Hebrews 10:14 and Hebrews 11:40) and "becoming righteousness" (2 Corinthians 5:21). But when the Biblical authors write about such things, they often don't intend for them to be heard the way that many modern westerners understand them. The Biblical authors were living within a narrative that said that God was going to do something through his people, and when this thing as completed, God Himself would be righteous and the promises would be brought to "perfection". This week, Karl and Susie Gessler continue to explore the meaning of God's righteousness in the Bible and how it relates to people of God and the story of the world that God so loved.Leave a Comment or ask a question:https://www.karlgessler.com/contactShow Your Love!
