Paul is not building a system of determinism. He is laying the foundation for understanding sin, grace, justification by faith, life in the Spirit, and the unshakable assurance believers have in Christ. This overview shows why Romans 9–11 does not stand alone, but grows directly out of what Paul has already established about God’s purpose, God’s character, and the role of faith. Without this context, Romans 9–11 is often misunderstood. With it, Paul’s argument becomes clear, consistent, and faithful to the character of God revealed throughout Scripture.
