Navigating Same-Sex Marriage And Religious Freedom The Church seems to have set a course conceding that same-sex marriage is here to stay in the United States. However, its support of the Respect of Marriage Act is not support for same-sex marriage. Rather, it is to protect religious freedom.  Senator Romney sides with the position of the Church on the bill believing that the provisions protecting religious freedom are sufficient.
