Does the state have control over county government?

from Nadine@9

Growing up, I LOVED the city. Chicago, specifically, was one of my favorite places to visit and I had big dreams of living there one day. I just love the idea of being able to walk wherever you need to go, meeting friends for coffee without planning days in advance since you all live 30+mins from each other, the diversity and extracurricular opportunities, etc…but over the past several years I’ve started to understand the draw to rural life. The space and safety are definitely more ideal for raising a family. But at least we can still visit the city right, right?Or, have the cities become too dangerous? Thank goodness the state can step in when the city isn’t policing correctly.Or should they? If the people elect men and women who make decisions that in turn make the city dangerous, should the people suffer the consequences until they learn to elect better leaders? Or is that too harsh? And will this end up punishing the rest of the state if we leave the cities to their own devices?Sadly, we’re seeing this played out in not only our state but also in California. Thankfully, the people in CA have eyes that are much more open than ever before and I THINK a change of leadership might be in the works for this beautiful state full of great potential! But what about good ol’ “red” Missouri? Have the people of STL been squeezed hard enough? Get full access to Nadine@9’s Substack at nadineat9.substack.com/subscribe

K. Chesterton (1874 - 1936) LibriVox LibriVox volunteers bring you 9 recordings of The Song Against Songs by G. K. Chesterton. This was the Fortnightly Poetry project for October 16, 2011.Chesterton was a large man, standing 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m) and weighing around 21 stone (130 kg; 290 lb). His girth gave rise to a famous anecdote. During World War I a lady in London asked why he was not 'out at the Front'; he replied, 'If you go round to the side, you will see that I am.' On another occasion he remarked to his friend George Bernard Shaw: "To look at you, anyone would think a famine had struck England". Shaw retorted, "To look at you, anyone would think you have caused it". P. G. Wodehouse once described a very loud crash as "a sound like Chesterton falling onto a sheet of tin."( Summary from Wikipedia ) HealthCall LIVE WOWO / Federated Media HealthCall LIVE with Lee Kelso is a summary of the weeks most interesting and useful health and medical news.
