Plus also questioned the irony of a man with no children scolding people on a decision he himself decided not to make. Countries around the world, including the United States, have been reporting annual drops in birthrates in recent years. Population powerhouses in the developing world are also posting low growth. In 2020, data from Indian authorities indicated, the country’s fertility dropped below “replacement rate,”Which caused the pope to tell his listeners to not choose pets over children.
