Doggerland – The Land Beneath the North Sea

from Lost Civilizations: Ancient Aliens & Forgotten History · host R.V. Nielsen

In this episode, we're heading straight to the bottom of the North Sea — literally. About 8,000 years ago, a rich, forested landmass sat right here, bigger than many of today's European countries. It used to have no name at all, because nobody knew it had ever existed — today we call it Doggerland. We start with a fishing trawler that, in 1931, hauled up a 13,000-year-old harpoon from the seabed, and we follow the trail through geologists, archaeologists, and DNA researchers who've slowly pieced together an entire vanished landscape. Along the way, we'll hit a massive tsunami out of Norway, a Stonehenge made of deer skulls, a man with blue-green eyes and dark skin from a cave in Somerset, and a French pseudo-documentary about an "Atlantean city" on the seafloor — which we're about to debunk. And at the very end, we'll ask the big question: if Doggerland really did drown an entire civilization, why don't we have any myths about it — unlike Atlantis, which never existed at all? ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
