Doing nothing for 2 minutes cant really work can it? You know what its like, you've been really busy, and someone tells you to simply relax? Their good advice is usually met with an eye roll and a laugh. You're too busy to relax! Youve got the kids to deal with, take the dog for a walk, and dont mention that huge pile of ironing that wont get done by itself. But what if doing nothing for 2 minutes could make you more productive? Or less stressed? Or at least less of an irritable jerk? Maybe it's time to give meditation a try! First Thing Is Just Stop Talking And Breath When you're alone, try to do nothing for two minutes. Don't say anything, don't text anyone or take out your phone, and don't look at your computer screen. Just sit still and breathe in and out for a two whole minutes. That's it! You should try this daily for a month—it might be hard at first, but with time it will become easier as you learn to focus on yourself instead of the outside world all the time. You see its the conscious decision to take control of your life that is the secret that the wise fold have known for generations. You dont have book yourself into a three week luxury spa rereat in Phuket, just being quite, breathing in and out and doing nothing for 2 minutes can be a bit of a game changer. It's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life without stopping to think about how we're feeling physically or emotionally at any given moment. This exercise can help you connect with your inner self so that when something does happen that makes you upset or causes anxiety, it won't be such a shock because the emotional response has already been automated by the previous experiences of stopping talking. I'm sure you will say "I could do this on vacation, but not during a normal working day!" You can just sit and listen to the waves crash all around you for just 120 seconds and you are done. Ok, you might be thinking this is a bit silly but just give it ago. We have been using it for a few weeks now at Join Up Dots and it has become one of our favourite mini escapes. It's better than sitting in the toilet listening to other people through the woodwork after all.
