Domestic Abuse Survivors To Retain Place On Social Housing Waiting List When Moving To New Area
from Clare FM · host Clare FM
Domestic abuse survivors will be allowed keep their place on social housing lists when moving to a new area, under new rules. Previously, those who relocated to a different local authority were moved to the back of the queue. The Irish Independent reports the news rule, being introduced by Housing Minister James Browne, will allow survivors who already have an active social housing application to apply to another council while keeping their original waiting list place. Campaign groups had highlighted this as a barrier for those trying to escape abusive situations. Siobhán O'Connor, Manager of Clare Haven, joined Alan Morrissey to discuss what these changes mean for survivors. Photo (c) charliepix from charliepix via Canva
